A cinematic representation

While travelling through the link lists of bloggers and their readers, I came upon a pretty cool idea for a meme of sorts. The general idea is to start at the year of your birth and choose a movie, a favorite or one that had a profound influence on you, that was released in each and every year of your life.
If your interested in what movies define my life then all you need to do is "Read More".

I'll start in 1964. Now there were a great many good movies that were released in that year, Mothra vs. Godzilla is my choice for the best of the year.
1965: I am tempted to go with Gamera (I do love my monsters)and I am also tempted to choose some really cool highbrow flick like The Agony and the Ecstasy, but the film that had the greatest impact on my life from that year is he World of Abbott and Costello. Only because they stopped makin' movies long before I was born.
1966:A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
1967: No, not the Graduate, but: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
1968:The Producers Zero Mostel is a personal favorite of mine.
1969: Easy Rider! Yeah, I know a lot of people will have trouble with this year for there were so many great movies made, but the theme as I see it is movies that shaped my world.
Here are the rest without link or commentary.
1970: Horton Hears a Who!
1971: A Clockwork Orange.
1972: Deep Throat- I will neither explain nor apologise.
1973: Enter the Dragon.
1974: Blazing Saddles
1975: The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
1976: Taxi Driver.
1977: Star Wars, Of course!!!
1978: Animal House.
1979: The Jerk, Mad Max,Monty Python's Life of Brian, Quadrophenia,Rock 'n' Roll High School. Sorry, I just couldn't decide.
1980: The Blues Brothers. Caddyshack is a tough movie to pass up, but...
1981: Time Bandits.
1982: Blade Runner.
1983: The Right Stuff.
1984: Once Upon a Time in America.
1985: Into the Night.
1986: Little Shop of Horrors.
1987: Another superbly tough year to choose from yet, Full Metal Jacket stands out above the rest.
1988: A Fish Called Wanda.
1989: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure & Cinema Paradiso.
1990: A totally tough year, but I have to go with My homeland. Goodfellas.
1991: The fisher king- I happen to love every single movie that Terry Gilliam has ever made!
1992: My Cousin Vinny.
1993: The Nightmare Before Christmas.
1994: Immortal Beloved.
1995: Dead Man Walking & Smoke. Don't force me to choose between them.
1996: Tin Cup. Yeah, yeah I know there were a bunch of better movies, but I play golf. So what?!?
1997: The Fifth Element. Ummm, right..
1998: Shakespeare in Love. No!Not a chick flick!!!!
1999: The Green Mile was an awesome tale, but I feel that Man on the Moon hit home for me.
2000: Dancer in the Dark (first date movie with the wife - I don't recommend it for romance.)
2001: If I have to choose a movie for this year it would have to be - A Beautiful Mind. Most everything else was shit.
2002: Punch Drunk Love.
2003: Big Fish.
2004: 50 First Dates. OK Don't give me any crap about this.
2005: Capote.
2006: Casino Royal. Had to led Bond have at least one spot! Sorry Sean.
2007-2008: Will have to pass on these. I haven't gone to the movies in quite some time so I just don't know what's out there.

Well, I hope you have enjoyed this silliness. It was a pain in the ass to write, but a whole lot of fun to think about. Don't forget to visit the links and see where I got this from.

See ya in the balcony.

OMG! Dancer in the Dark and Punch Drunk Love? Two of the most underrated movies ev-ah! I adore those flicks! Thank you for reminding me how much. I need to go put them on my list ASAP.

That indeed would be a pain in the ass meme to write I( can imagine. It must have required a lot of research work to find out what was released when.

Now I am not such a movie watcher, & besides, in India, molestations at movie theaters have been rampant. So we were never taken to see any movie till we were at least 14 years of age. ( not all parents do that. Mine were extra strict & we were 'prohibited' to do more than one normal thing )

Great choices from some great years. I would have to throw in just one movie: RockyI&II. When I saw II as a small, small child at some crusty theater with my sister and her date, it got my little mind going and has stuck with me ever since--more than Star Wars ever did.

The Grunt said...

I count Rocky I&II as the same movie, just broken up into two parts. Yep, good save.

A very good list, NYD!

I've actually seen some of these. Let me help you out on 1995. "SMOKE" was good. "Dead Man Walking" like every other movie with talentless fag Seanboy Penn SUCKED.

Shakespeare in Love was a great film. Even Ben Affleck was good.

1964 - are YOU old. But no Japanese movies? Are you unfamiliar with the family-oriented genius that is Takashi Miike?

Gee mister, the 16-movies I'd only be able to post about, hardly makes it worth doing.

Great idea and some great choices. I would have to think long and hard on this one. I don't even remember what years they came out anymore. Hmm...

Moi~ I like movies that often go unnoticed by others

Mona~ I have always enjoyed molesting my dates during a movie.

Grunt~ I like Rocky, but I grew up with Joe Frasier, Muhammed Ali and George Foreman- Just couldn't get over the great white hope fantasy of the plot.

NME~ Everyone is writing about the Dark Knight so I am staying away from the Critiques. After all, I have been waiting for this movie ever since Frank Miller wrote and drew the comic book. It's been a loooooooong wait.

Megan~ Nooooo! One must see and experience every movie connected to the members of the Flying Circus!

Troll~ Although I believe there are worse actors than, Um what was the term you used "talentless fag Seanboy Penn". It was the content/ subject matter of the movie and movies like "Life of David Gale" that tweaked my nipples. Not the Fagboy actors.

Kurt~ Not even Ben Fagboy Affleck could fuck that movie up.

Grant~ Sorry buddy. Only Hollywood trash and none of the silent movies from my childhood either.

Pug~ So your telling us you were born in a leap year, young pup.

Carla~ Just do what I did and let the almighty Wiki work it for you.

Mighty Beluga~ Funny how things change. Remember when you actually had to roll down a car window or dial a telephone number. Sheesh!

Mona said...

O no no no.. I am not talking about that kind of molestation! what I mean is the 'strangers' grabbing you here & there!

NYD said...

Mona, baby. I know exactly what you were talking about. Now come on over so I can pinch yer butt!

Aunty Belle said...

Gottta say it--trite? yep...but the first James Bond, From Russia wif' Luv...he. Gave me a certain underview of thangs, ya know...been watchin' fer Spectre over mah shoulder since.
