What are friends for.

Can you relate to the total exhaustion that many people experience by the time Sunday rolls around? I can. All I really wanted to do was spend the morning snuggling with my wife, which just happens to be a very good way to spend a cold winter morning.
This was not to be; for we had entered a soba eating contest and no matter how strong the pull might be to stay in bed and play footsie with each other might be; we had commited ourselves to a mighty endeavor. Rousing ourselves, we did all the things that very tired people do to wake themselves, splashing cold water on our faces, stretching and slapping our faces firmly so as to get the blood coursing through a sleep filled brain.
The weather was heavy and the skies threatened to envelope us in snow, sleet or some such nastiness as we got in the car to pick up some friends and make our way to the contest. I am not going to bore you with all of the gastronomical details of the happenings today. One doesn't really need to hear about people who eat far to much than is good for them and later regret the folly of ingesting copious amounts of tasty carbs. Especially since the winner of the contest, a trim, middle-aged woman, devoured over three hundred bowls of the stuff in fifteen minutes!
Today wasn't really about that for me. It was about being part of a team. A lean, mean, Gaijin, noodle eating machine! It was about doing my part in an effort to bring a bunch of really good people closer together through a shared experience.I truly like the individuals that I spend my days with and I am looking forward to many, many more days like today.

Just for the record.
The woman's team ate 75 bowls of noodles in six minutes and the men's team ate 165!
Insanity can be fun.

WOW, Huh!

Leelee~ You said a mouthfull!

Serena~ Soba is a Japanese noodle made from buckwheat. In normal amounts it is quite tasty, but yesterday it felt more like a belly bomb!

NYD- I feel a little silly- after the note I sent...I think I understand things now- and I'll try to stop being a goof- even though it will be difficult (since I'm mostly full of goof!)

Ok- the noodle thing looked like fun :) It also looked like it would be an easier thing to purge than hot dogs or pizza- if one had too much...
but I don't want to know if that happened :P
And here's a hug to the Scary one-
I'm thinking I will make Maydens's Voyage scrapbook next year...
There will be a chapter dedicated to the Monster- and to Cabo.
