Thirty three and a third

My, my, my. How time does fly when you're doin mostly nothing but work and watching mindless TV. I can't believe it's been more than ten days since I last entertained you all with the inanity of my life in Japan. Now that my Memeterview with Lime is over I have to rely on my own devices and imagination, so in the immortal words of Jackie Gleason, AKA Ralph Kramden the Gotham city bus driver... "And awaaay we go!"

Goood! You decided to push the magic button and read the rest of this post. I thank you for your sense of adventure. There aren't many people who would do what you have done. Go ahead, put a gold star somewhere on your computer. You deserve it.

There isn't a day that goes by where I don't think about why the world is so darned wacky.
It's possible that you do too.
Recently, well maybe not so recently, I have noticed that I am from a different time of thinking. I'm not saying that I am out of date, I just think about time differently.
I seem to run on a different speed than other folks. Yeah, I use a computer and digital playware, but my roots are founded in vinyl when it comes to music, glass when it comes to Coke bottles and Scrabble when it comes to playing games. That makes me a bit anachronistic and thoroughly recidivist for I am unrepentant. I do not want to change anything that still keeps my boat afloat especially when the craft is sound.

Even though there have been many wondrous technological advancements that have occurred in my lifetime I really do believe that we have lost the ability to slow down and move at, what I consider to be, a reasonable pace. Everywhere I go and most of the people I see have very little free time and instead of trying to appreciate one thing in particular, they scramble and strain to get everything done at the same time-and are perplexed when it all becomes a mess.

Living in what must be one of the most time conscious countries in the world makes matters even worse. I have seen people so obsessed with time that they are completely ruled by the nefarious wristwatch. I haven't worn a watch, except for use as sartorial accoutrement. in over 25 years. Ialso almost never use an alarm clock. I loath them.

I reckon it would be kinda cool to roam the earth like Kwai Chang Caine. After all I already have the haircut. The idea of doing good without realizing it, only taking up as much space as the width of my body demanded and learning more about myself with each and every adventure is alluring. That would be awesome, but these days I might just want to be more like Jules Winnfield. I wonder where I could get ahold of them sideburns.

I guess I am just itching for the warm weather to arrive. It's tough trying to get out of the house when the world is frozen and forbidding.
What are you jonesing for these days?

the sense of time is one thing i loved about trinidad. it was far more relaxed about schedules, which suited me just fine.

I'd like to see some winter weather. They promised us snow today, but it's in the 40's and just pouring rain instead. Also, I'm jonesing for some J-bunny action.

I'm jonesing for my life to return to normal but I think I'm barking up the wrong tree - no longer have any idea what "normal" is.
Failing that - another adventure - like my spontaneous trip to London!

I developed my world view while under the influence of Kwai Chang Caine. I still think he's right about everything.

I know the feeling! I'm ready for some warm weather too. I keep hearing we are getting another nor'easter tonight and into tomorrow....8 to 12 inches...

I stopped wearing a watch about 6 years ago, but I have to have a clock in my office to stop and end sessions on time and I also have to have an alarm to get to work (and the kids to school).

I'm more than ready for warm weather, too.

I'm jonesing for Springtime. I'm so sick of Winter I can hardly stand it. I need to change jobs, too, which is going to become a major jones very soon. I hope you and I both see some Spring weather before our brains freeze.:)

I've been longing for a good long massage. Don't have the ducats to go to a professional though, so tonight while I was babysitting my 4 yr old nephew I had him walk on my back.

Wasn't quite what I was looking for, but he enjoyed himself immensely.

Good to 'see' you, man.

I have two silver stars around my neck and a black one tattooed on my face -- does that count?

I long for warm sunshine and the energy to get out and enjoy it.

Like several other commentors before me, I am looking forward to see winter lapse into dormancy and give way to spring.

Lime~ I wish I could open the windows of my mind and do the same. It's getting musty in here.

Grant~ Dude you have Yellow Fever. A serious affliction of Asian Cravin!

Beth= When you figure out what normal is, let me know so I can compare my life to it. If, on the other hand, you decide to take off again, let me know your destination and I'll join ya.

Kurt~ I hear ya, brother!!!

Spin~ Gettin 8~12 inches!?! I'd say you were one lucky woman.

Citizen~ I think that timepieces were the Swiss' contribution to world demise. Chocolate was another evil they perfected.

NME~ Life is waaaaay too bid to be bothered about a lack of blog activity. Better to live it than to write about it.

SJ~Here's to the upoming spring. It may mot make work more pleasant but, at the very least the commute to and fro will be filled with sunshine.

Megan~ Giving someone a massage is probably the second best way to spend an hour.

Mona~ Keep the faith, sister. That is a hard, long road your family is facing.

Sam~ Grrrl, everything counts. You are star stuff; luminous, enlightening and HOT!

Hale~ Good to see you again! I have to drop by your place for a good dose humour. This old dog needs a gut buster.

I don't know what I'm jonesing for exactly. I'll know when I see it.

I think you're correct in thinking your out-of-step feelings on time are enhanced by being in Japan. Especially urban Japan.

I agree that all of the advancements that we have made have cost us a bit of our humanity.

I never wear a watch either.

And because I hate them too, how on earth do you wake up without an alarm clock?

I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

Chez Troll~ Actually I live in the mountains and the attitude many people have is a lot more relaxed than, say, Tokyo or Osaka.

Whimsey~ This is going to be one of those "Then strange things about me" factoids: If I haven't drunk myself stupid I can usually "tell" myself what time to wake up before I drift off. Then I just wake up.

Moi~ When you're the sheppherd you have to know when to get the flock away.

Wait?!?! Isn't Kwai Chang Caine a celibate monk with no material possession?

That means you will have to give up the wife and creature comforts of home.

I could only wish!

I'm jonesing for Mrs. Jones. We used to have a thing going on. Then Billy Paul butted in. Now she goes by Mrs. Paul and sells frozen fish based products.
